What We’re Learning Beyond the Church Walls

As part of our ongoing learning in the Making Meaning Together (MMT) initiative, our team stepped outside of traditional church spaces to explore how meaningful, engaging experiences are designed in other settings. We spent time learning with the Disney Institute and observing environments like the Georgia Aquarium – places that are intentional about creating spaces where people feel welcomed, engaged, and transformed.

These experiences invited us to notice the small details, thoughtful design, and deep sense of care that shape how people encounter a space. As we reflect on what we learned, we’re asking: What might this look like in our worship spaces? How can we create environments where children feel a deep sense of belonging, wonder, and connection with God?

In the reflections that follow, we share what we noticed, what inspired us, and how these learnings might translate into more intentional, inclusive worship with children.
